A first-half double from Jack Lankester helped unbeaten Crewe to an emphatic 3-1 win over fellow high-fliers Bristol Rovers.

Jordan Gibson added a third after the break as Rovers - with boss Steve Evans watching from the stand as he served a touchline ban - sunk to a fourth away defeat in five games, with Bobby Kamwa's brilliant late strike scant consolation.

Lankester got Crewe off to a thrilling start with a goal after just 40 seconds. He latched onto a ball from Joel Tabiner, cut in from the right flank and curled an exquisite effort into the far corner past goalkeeper Brad Young.

Rovers responded quickly and as the ball bounced around the home box, Ciaran Kelly unleashed a shot onto the underside of the crossbar.

After curling a free-kick just over, Lankester punished the visitors, sending Young the wrong way from the penalty spot after Alfie Kilgour was spotted pulling down Luke Offord at a corner.

It could have got worse for Rovers shortly afterwards as Adrien Thibaut raced clear and it needed a last-ditch intervention from Jack Sparkes to block the young striker's effort.

Rovers improved after the break and Kamwa was slipped clear only to be denied by Crewe goalkeeper Tom Booth.

But the contest was put out of their reach in the 66th minute. Josh March swept a pass over to the right of the box where substitute Gibson brought the ball down and drilled a fine finish into the far corner.

Kamwa grabbed a sensational goal in stoppage time when he spotted Booth off his line and drove the ball over him from inside his own half.
