Salford, who won four of their five league matches in September, missed a golden chance to take the lead in the seventh minute when Langstaff burst into the box and fired wide.

Will Norris made a superb diving save to touch Adam Murphy's effort onto the post before Mark Helm skewed a shot over the bar from range as the visitors threatened to open the scoring 10 minutes later.

Former Fleetwood forward Ryan Graydon had a shot blocked inside the box as the first half petered out after its lively start.

The Cod Army were given a lifeline 13 minutes after the break when it was judged the ball had gone behind for a goal kick before Kelly Nmai's low centre ricocheted into the visitors' net.

But Fleetwood's reprieve was to be short-lived as Salford went ahead after 65 minutes when Langstaff diverted Graydon's effort from range into the top right corner.

Away goalkeeper Jay Lynch made two fine saves to deny Jorge Grant's curling shot from the edge of the box and a fierce Graydon drive as the Ammies comfortably held on.
