Watch: Trump, first lady headline Fostering Future Together event in Rose Garden

First lady Melania Trump, joined by President Trump, made an announcement at the White House Rose Garden on Thursday afternoon related to the administration’s Fostering the Future Together initiative.

While details surrounding the event were slim, the initiative has looked to expand academic opportunities for young people transitioning out of the foster care system . The New York Post reported Thursday morning that the Trumps planned to announce a new scholarship.

Their remarks came ahead of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix , slated for Saturday and Sunday in the nation’s capital. The 1.7-mile course will loop around the National Archives, National Gallery of Art and Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, according to a map released Monday.

IndyCar officials attended Thursday’s event.
