Watch live: Trump hosts Rose Garden lunch to honor first responders

President Trump is hosting a lunch in the Rose Garden on Thursday to honor first responders, including law enforcement officers and firefighters.

The event brings together representatives from several national organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Police, International Association of Fire Fighters and National Sheriffs’ Association, according to a White House official.

The gathering comes as Trump touts his administration’s tough-on-crime agenda , including efforts to expand federal support for law enforcement, roll back Biden administration policing restrictions and crack down on violent offenses.

The White House has also highlighted tax relief for overtime pay as part of its support for first responders.

Meanwhile, his administration faces scrutiny over his aggressive immigration enforcement and the federal investigation involving Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).

The event was scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. EDT.
