Trump faces blowback with $5,000 dividend promise

President Trump’s pledge to distribute $5,000 to every U.S. adult if Republicans win the midterms is drawing backlash from Republicans and Democrats as the president’s allies are forced to explain and defend the proposition. Fiscal hawks, including Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), openly questioned how the government would be able to afford to pay 270 million…

What a crybaby.

Elon Musk’s lawyer Alex Spiro sent a legal threat to Alex Gibney and the production company behind the new Musk documentary, which so far is receiving strong reviews. We know very well by now that Musk’s “free speech” persona is just a cheap costume. The letter, described by THR, looks plainly like an intimidation device. At least Gibney doesn’t seem intimidated. Elon Musk’s Boring Company digs up $3 billion.

The tunneling venture announced it raised $3 billion in a Series D funding round led by the United Arab Emirates that values the company at $23 billion. Last year, the Boring Company signed a preliminary agreement to dig the Dubai Loop, a 4-mile (6.4km) tunnel that includes four stations linking the Dubai International Financial Centre and Dubai Mall. With this new financing, the company plans on developing over 150km (93 miles) of tunnels throughout Dubai. The Dell XPS 13 is the latest laptop to get a $100 price hike.

The XPS 13 now costs $699 for a base configuration with just 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. That price used to get you a configuration with 512GB of storage, but Dell’s now charging $799 for that one. It matches the pricing for Apple’s MacBook Neo, which also got a price hike earlier this year. Here come the Duo-sized power banks.

You’ll now have to be more careful when choosing a battery for your iPhone. BMX’s new SolidSafe Duo is one of the first that’s sized to fit Apple’s wider iPhone Duo. At $79.99 the SolidSafe Duo is expensive for a 5,000mAh battery even with wireless charging capabilities, but it uses safer semi-solid-state cell tech, and you get a big status screen. This Qi2 ring charger has a built-in fan

Charging your phone wirelessly can get mighty toasty. ESR’s new CryoBoost 25W charging pad has a clever solution: a fan built right into the charging puck. The company says the design allows it to charge an iPhone 17 Pro halfway up to 28 percent faster than the official Apple MagSafe 25W charger. Maybe I’m no fun, but once you’re plugging a cable in to run a fan while you charge your phone why not… just use wired charging? Anyway, it’s kinda cool, I guess. Apple could make it a lot easier to redeem physical gift cards.

The iOS 27 Release Candidate became available yesterday and includes new code that seems to indicate you’ll soon be able to redeem physical Apple gift cards by tapping them on the back of your iPhone, according to MacRumors. An added security chip, presumably NFC, will also help reduce scams by making it easier to tell if a card has been cancelled or already spent. The Pixel Tablet is gone from Google’s online store.

The 2023 Android tablet has seemingly been discontinued. Its online Google Store page is gone, and there’s no longer even a “Tablet” section in the menu. The Pixel Tablet was most notable for the included dock, which turned it into a smart home hub, but never received a follow-up. Motorola has its own wide foldable on the way.

The Razr maker didn’t want to feel left out by Apple’s iPhone Duo, the latest in a wave of passport-shaped foldables. This clip of its flip phones and foldables, including this year’s Razr Fold, ends with a shorter, wider phone, shown briefly and only in silhouette. Motorola calls it “our next move.” [Media: https://www.instagram.com/p/DdE2eO2jdpd/]
