This desktop Spotify alternative is less RAM hungry and supports Winamp skins.

If you’re tired of the Spotify desktop app gobbling up a big chunk of your computer’s RAM, Spotifast for Linux, macOS, and Windows takes a leaner approach and typically needs just 100 to 250MB. A Spotify Premium account is required to actually stream music instead of just browsing, and if you need another reason to switch, Spotifast includes a Mini Player that supports Winamp 2 skins. Former OpenAI safety researchers ask for more transparency about their firings.

In a letter to OpenAI, Tomek Korbak, Jasmine Wang, and Mikita Balesni push back on OpenAI’s claims that they shared confidential information with an outside AI safety group. The three researchers say they “acted in line with OpenAI’s mission,” and raise concern that their firings could “justify ending OpenAI’s work with METR,” the AI safety organization that investigated the rogue Hugging Face hack. The animation will play like a short video, which you can download as an MP4 file. Anthropic is also rolling out live dashboards that update based on your company’s data, and is launching Docs, Slides, and Design out of beta. The Trump administration seems like its leaning toward allowing unapproved peptides.

So says The Washington Post. I’ve been writing about gray-market peptides in Optimizer, but this is a follow-up to July’s FDA hearings about whether compounding pharmacies should be allowed to sell unapproved peptides. It’s unclear which ones, and the timing could change, but the Post says this might give the administration a “political upside.” [Link: Trump administration paving way for temporary sale of some unapproved peptides | https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2026/10/07/trump-administration-paving-way-temporary-sale-some-unapproved-peptides/ | The Washington Post]

Today’s Vergecast: The many pluses and minuses of Alexa Plus.

Amazon is determined to turn Alexa Plus into a do-everything AI assistant that can compete with Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, and the rest.
