Pat McAfee's comments about Utah on College GameDay and the university's subsequent apology has generated plenty of attention, and the ESPN commentator posted a lengthy message on social media addressing a number of topics on Wednesday.

He shared screenshots of threatening messages he received on social media and added, "I've stayed away from my mentions and DM's this month since these back to back days but.. I'm sure if I went in there now, I'd find some wishes for and threats of death for me."

The former NFL player also opened up about a specific experience on College GameDay ahead of a Tennessee game and discussed the enhanced security measures that included presence from the FBI, Tennessee State Police, the Knoxville Police Department and university police.

"I'm trying my best in real time but.. I am to talk about sports and care about the future of sports," McAfee wrote. "I owe everything to sports. I'm grateful as hell to do what I do. I literally try to love every minute of the incredible opportunities I get to experience but.. it's certainly all a much different life than I could've ever expected.

"I try to give everything I have, all the time.. I am very sorry to those that despise me."

The message comes after the University of Utah released a statement Monday taking "full accountability" for a video posted on social media:

As The Athletic's Chris Vannini noted, McAfee addressed the situation during his show Monday and said he was "uncomfortable" during the College GameDay broadcast at Utah and regarding a social media video posted by some students doing an impression of him.

The university posted the video on its official Instagram page, although it later deleted it.

Saturday was the seventh time ESPN's College GameDay visited Utah for a Utes home game. The show recently announced it is heading to Bloomington, Indiana, for the Hoosiers' home game against Minnesota.
