Anthony Colandrea returning to Nebraska for the 2027 season will have no impact on top quarterback recruit Trae Taylor coming to Lincoln for his freshman year.

Taylor, a 5-star recruit and No. 1 overall quarterback in the 2027 class, wrote on X that Colandrea coming back "changes absolutely nothing for my commitment" and he looks forward to "coming in and competing and learning" from the entire entire Nebraska quarterback room:

"My phone is blowing up wanting interviews about Ant coming back," Taylor wrote on Friday. "I'll post it here and get back focused on my game tonight. I absolutely love that he is coming back and hope TJ stays I can learn a ton from both. I respect every QB in that room as all of them have been helpful to me already. This changes absolutely nothing for my commitment and I'm 100% locked in. Looking forward to coming in and competing and learning. Hope that answers everyone's questions on where me and my family stand. #GBR sorry I can't do interviews today I just need to lock in on standing bear tonight hope everyone understands."

Colandrea's agency announced on Friday he has agreed to a deal that will keep him with the Cornhuskers for his final year of college eligibility.

This is Colandrea's first season with Nebraska after transferring from UNLV. He has been solid so far with 1,570 yards, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions in seven games.

Taylor has been committed to Nebraska since May 2025. He picked the Huskers over a group of other high-profile programs that includes Michigan, LSU and Texas A&M.

One thing that may have helped Nebraska maintain its advantage over other programs is location. Taylor is currently a senior at Millard South High School in Omaha.

Taylor told ESPN's Eli Lederman at the time of his commitment that his meetings with quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas helped sell him on Nebraska.

"Sitting down with Coach Thomas and getting into the offense, seeing how he coaches Dylan and how he can prepare me for the next level — I really just can't wait," Taylor told ESPN's Eli Lederman . "For me, it's kind of hard committing too early because I have to wait so long to get there."

Taylor reaffirming his commitment to Nebraska is a huge win for head coach Matt Rhule and his staff. The Cornhuskers currently have the 15th-ranked recruiting class in 2027 with 21 total commits, led by Taylor.

Rhule has Nebraska off to a 5-2 start this season going into Saturday's matchup with Washington in Lincoln.
