Mike Vrabel Says His Concern Level Is 'Very High' After Maye, Patriots' Blowout Loss to Jaguars

Mike Vrabel is not pleased with the New England Patriots three games into the 2026 season.

"My concern level is very high for this football team," he told reporters following Sunday's 35-6 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars, dropping the Pats to 1-2.

Quarterback Drake Maye—last year's MVP runner-up—had a brutal game against Jacksonville, throwing two interceptions, taking three sacks and losing a fumble. His three turnovers directly led to 14 points, a total that could have been 17, though Cam Little missed an audacious 70-yard field goal attempt to end the first half.

Maye now has seven turnovers on the season and called Sunday's performance "unacceptable."

One of the critiques regarding the Patriots during last year's Super Bowl run was that they benefitted from the NFL's easiest schedule (and one of the easiest schedules in NFL history ). Then in the playoffs they faced a Los Angeles Chargers team with a decimated offensive line, a Houston Texans team without Nico Collins (Dalton Schultz also left the game injured in the first half) and a Denver Broncos team without Bo Nix.

The Seattle Seahawks were healthy in the Super Bowl, however, and smoked New England 29-13, a game that was far more lopsided than even the 16-point deficit suggests.

And with losses against the Seahawks and Jaguars to start the 2026 season—both playoff teams from a year ago and legitimate Super Bowl contenders this year—a narrative is emerging. Perhaps last year's Super Bowl run was a bit luckier than folks in New England want to admit.

The 2026 season is young, of course, and Maye and the Patriots have plenty of time to turn things around. Doing so in the short term won't be easy, however, with the undefeated Buffalo Bills up next.
