Trevor Lawrence Explains Taking Knee at 1-Yard Line in Jags' Win vs. Patriots amid Criticism

Trevor Lawrence made the very surprising decision to take a knee at the one-yard line after breaking free for a potential touchdown rather than scoring himself in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the New England Patriots.

The move came with about eight minutes remaining in the game, and while Lawrence said his initial thought was to waste some clock, he acknowledged that there was too much time left to pull that type of move.

"Trying to put together a good drive but it was four-minute thought, so we got down there and when I broke free and nobody tackled me—it's something we talk about all the time potentially in those situations, like going down, keeping the clock running—that was too much time," Lawrence said of the play. "So I looked at the clock after like, 'Ah, still eight minutes left.' So it was probably unnecessary there. Just trying to eat as much clock as possible. They used the timeout after that, trying to give them as few chances as possible to get back in the game."
