Saints RB Travis Etienne leaves game vs. Raiders early with apparent hamstring injury

The New Orleans Saints lost running back Travis Etienne early on Sunday afternoon due to an apparent hamstring injury.

Etienne took a handoff in the second half of their matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon, and started breaking for the right sideline at the Caesars Superdome. Suddenly, though, Etienne reached back for his left hamstring and was clearly in some discomfort. He was hit out of bounds, but came up limping and left the field for the medical tent.

Eventually, Etienne made his way to the locker room. The Saints called him questionable to return with the hamstring injury, though further specifics are not yet known.

Etienne had a team-high 57 rushing yards on 13 carries when he left the game. He had another 13 receiving yards on two catches. The 27-year-old entered the contest with 71 rushing yards so far this season, his first with the Saints after spending his first four years in the league with the Jacksonville Jaguars . The Saints reached a four-year, $52 million deal with him in free agency this past offseason.

Despite losing Etienne, the Saints scored immediately after his 16 yard run in the third quarter. Quarterback Tyler Shough threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Noah Fant on the next play, which put them up 27-16 at the time.

That marked Shough's fourth touchdown pass of the game. He found Fant for a 3-yard score earlier in the second quarter, and he hit fellow tight end Juwan Johnson for a pair of short touchdowns, too.
