Drake Maye Ripped by NFL Fans for Turnovers During Brutal Start to Patriots Season

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is not having the season start he was hoping for following his 2025 MVP runner-up campaign.

Maye committed his seventh turnover in three games by throwing a third-quarter interception Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He was later benched for Tommy DeVito with the Jaguars leading 35-6 in the fourth quarter.

After the game, Maye discussed the matter:

NFL fans were left stunned by Maye's 1-to-6 season-long touchdown to interception ratio through 11 quarters of the season.

The Patriots' first drive Sunday resulted in a punt. Maye lost the ball while attempting a pass to end the second.

Maye ran in a 21-yard touchdown that was waved off by an offensive holding penalty in the second quarter. The drive ultimately ended in a field goal.

The Patriots lost control again on their final drive of the half. After recovering his own fumble on a scramble earlier in the possession, Maye sent a red-zone interception into the arms of Jags defender Travis Hunter.

The Patriots missed a field goal on their first drive of the third quarter before Maye threw an interception on the first play of his team's next possession.

The broadcast showed Patriots coach Mike Vrabel having a talk with Maye on the sideline after his second pick of the game.

Vrabel kept Maye in for the start of the fourth quarter, at which point his team trailed 28-3, before turning DeVito to finish out the game.

Maye recorded his lone touchdown of the season so far on a short pass to Eli Raridon early in a season-opening 13-10 loss to the defending champion Seattle Seahawks.

The Patriots won 20-3 in Week 2 after holding the Pittsburgh Steelers to a single field goal as linebacker Elijah Ponder scored New England's lone touchdown of the game on a fumble recovery.

New England will hope to see their starting quarterback regain some of the confidence he showed while leading his team to a Super Bowl appearance last season in order to bounce back next Sunday at the Buffalo Bills.
