The Seattle Seahawks won't have their Super Bowl MVP from last season in Week 7. He will be on the opposite sideline with the Kansas City Chiefs.
But the Seahawks will have running back Zach Charbonnet on the active roster for the first time this season.
The Seahawks announced Thursday they have activated Charbonnet from the physically unable to perform list. He will join the active roster in time for the team's Week 7 matchup versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
Seattle placed tight end Elijah Arroyo officially placed injured reserve to create the roster space for Charbonnet.
Thursday was the final day the Seahawks could activate Charbonnet from the PUP list. That's because the running back's 21-day practice window was about to expire.
With that in mind, he isn't guaranteed to play Sunday. But the signs point to him probably being active.
"The move does not guarantee that Charbonnet will play in Sunday night's game, though Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said earlier in the week that it is a real possibility," wrote Seahawks.com's John Boyle . "Because Charbonnet returned to practice on October 1, Thursday marked the end of his 21-day practice window, meaning the Seahawks had to add him back to the 53-man roster or have him sit out the entire season."
Charbonnet is returning from an ACL injury he sustained in the division round of the playoffs last January. During the 2025 regular season, Charbonnet rushed for a career-high 730 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Seahawks Activate RB Zach Charbonnet for Chiefs Game
As Boyle explained, Charbonnet's activation doesn't guarantee the running back will play. Even if he plays, Charbonnet could be limited.
But it's obviously good news he will at least be on the roster. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald suggested the team is going to see how practice goes throughout the week.
"Zach is going to have a full week's worth of reps, so that's exciting, and there's a possibility that you could see him on Sunday in some capacity, so that's exciting," Macdonald told reporters on Monday .
Charbonnet was a full participant at Wednesday's practice for the Seahawks. The team will have two more days of practice before making a call on the running back's game status. The Seahawks and Chiefs will kick off as the Sunday night game at Lumen Field at 5:20 pm PT.
During the team's Super Bowl run last year, Charbonnet shared the backfield with Kenneth Walker III. After Charbonnet's injury, Walker starred in the NFC championship game and Super Bowl to lead Seattle to its second Super Bowl victory.
Walker signed with the Chiefs in free agency and will be making his first return to Seattle on Sunday.
Charbonnet has averaged 4.1 yards per carry in 49 career NFL games. He averaged 4.0 yards per rush last season on his way to career highs on the ground. Charbonnet also caught 20 passes for 144 yards in 2025.
If Charbonnet doesn't play versus the Chiefs, the Seahawks will again turn to Emanuel Wilson and George Holani in the backfield. The team also has Velus Jones Jr. and Robert Henry Jr. on the active roster.
Wilson leads the Seahawks with 303 rushing yards this season. But he's averaging only 3.5 yards per carry.
