Eagles WR Darius Cooper turns would-be interception into TD with wild catch vs. Rams
This was an Eagles touchdown instead of a Rams interception.
Eagles wide receiver Darius Cooper broke wide open in the end zone Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
He ended up securing the score in spectacular and harder-than-expected fashion.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts was under pressure on the pass play while rolling to his right. He saw Cooper, but wasn't able to get off an on-target pass. Instead, he floated a ball short while passing off his back foot that gave Rams safety Quentin Lake a shot at the ball.
Lake jumped at the goal line and got his hands on the ball. But it was just out of his reach to pull it down, and it bounced off his fingertips into the hands of Cooper, who'd leapt behind him in an effort to grab the ball.
Cooper bobbled the ball in traffic as he landed back toward the turf. But he never let the ball hit the ground. When he landed in the end zone, Cooper had gained control of the ball for an unlikely touchdown and one of the wildest catches of the NFL season.
Here's another look showing Cooper fighting to gain control of the ball as he fell to the turf.
The score was the second of the season and the second of his career for Cooper. It was certainly one to remember. And it gave the Eagles a 13-3 first-half lead in a critical game against the fellow NFC hopeful Rams. Cooper later caught a less-spectacular TD seconds before halftime to put Philadelphia up 20-10.
