New faces, new roles as Jags get ready for season

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- It's a new year for the Jags men's basketball, and with it comes a new-look team.

Eight new players have joined the roster, with seven of them returning from last season.

It's a younger group, made up entirely of freshmen and sophomores, but Coach Metress says they're learning and improving every day.

As for his returners, they're stepping into leadership roles, some leading by example, and others bringing plenty of emotion and energy to the team.

And for Coach, seeing that growth and commitment is exactly what he could ask for.

"I love this time of year. We're in two days on the weekends is all coaching. There's nothing else. And, just watching guys get better. I've seen it already with workouts. Some of our freshmen are better than they were a week ago. They were better. They were a month ago. So I'm seeing they get in shape, but for the most part, they listen. And that's all we can ask."

The Jags first game is Nov 9th at Miles College with tipoff scheduled for 7pm.
