Mike Norvell has a 'path' to saving his job at FSU

The FSU Seminoles beat the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday, routing them 38-7 in Doak Campbell Stadium. The win has them 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in ACC play.

It was a massive win for Mike Norvell, who entered the weekend with arguably the hottest seat in the country. And while one win over an unranked Virginia is not enough for him to save his job, Chris Hummer of 247Sports does believe that Norvell "has a path to potentially save his job."

Hummer believes Norvell can "change his fate" and mentioned FSU's upcoming three-game stretch against the Louisville Cardinals , Miami Hurricanes, and Clemson Tigers. Miami still looks like a juggernaut, but the games against Louisville and Clemson look much more winnable after both teams lost last week.

Some other factors could help out Norvell, who has a 41-36 record as FSU's head coach. The Seminoles do not currently have an athletic director after firing Michael Alford, and would owe Norvell a massive buyout should they fire him. He is due 85% of his remaining contract, and it is believed they would owe him over $40 million should they move on from him this year.

The next step for FSU is building off the momentum they created on Saturday, something they have struggled to do over the past two seasons. They have not won back-to-back games against a Power Four opponents since the 2023 season.
