Indiana Fever 's Sophie Cunningham is having a very eventful season, and it is not just about how she plays on the court. She has been playing well, but she keeps getting booed by fans at almost every game.

Cunningham has been part of many debates this season, and some of them started because of things she said publicly that people did not agree with. But the hate does not seem to bother her at all. In fact, she has said that she loves getting booed.

During the 2026 WNBA season, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham became one of the most polarizing figures in professional women's basketball.

On court, Cunningham has long played with an aggressive style brand of basketball. Throughout the season, she kept showing her tendency to engage in physical play and heated verbal exchanges such as a viral, animated confrontation where she pointed directly in the face of Connecticut Sun veteran DeWanna Bonner .

Beyond the court, she previously commented on biological males coming to WNBA. "I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men," Cunningham said about this issue. She was also involved in multiple on-the-court incident that makes the fans boo her almost in every game and every time she gets the ball.

Recently speaking with analyst Colin Cowherd, Cunningham has claimed that she does not mind getting booed, as a matter of fact she enjoys being hated. "It's so fun. When we're here at Gamebridge, it's so much fun because our fans are awesome, and you feel good leaving and (knowing) that you put on a good show for them," Cunningham said .

Sophie Cunningham acknowledged boos she gets when she plays in a different arena. Rather than pretending to be ignorant about it, she explained that she actually loves it. "But there is something special going into a different arena. Everyone knows it; I get booed 24/7. If I touch the ball, I get booed. The thing is, I f–king love that s–t. Bring it on."

Despite the public scrutiny, Sophie Cunningham is having a wonderful season with the Indiana Fevers.

During the 2026 WNBA season, Sophie Cunningham played a crucial, high-energy role for the Indiana Fever as a primary reserve guard and bench spark plug. Returning on a one-year deal after recovering from a torn MCL sustained late in 2025, she carved out an impactful niche within Indiana's rotation.

Cunningham delivered one of the most efficient shooting years of her seven-year WNBA career. Averaging 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in about 22.7 minutes per game, her total scoring ended up comfortably above her career average of 7.9 points per contest.

Her biggest impact showed up in her efficiency numbers, where she set career highs by hitting 43.4% of her three-point attempts and 46.9% of her overall field goals, driving an elite True Shooting percentage near 66.9%.
