Colorado football falls in ESPN FPI despite Georgia Tech win

Colorado notched a comeback win against a solid Georgia Tech team to open its 2026 season.

The win was arguably one of the best wins of the Coach Prime era, with the Buffaloes doing it with a dominant running game and controlling both lines of scrimmage. Despite the win coming against a Power Four opponent, Colorado fell in ESPN's Football Power Index, dropping two spots to No. 47 nationally after beginning the year at No. 45.

However, the Buffaloes' projected win total improved to 6.5-5.6 from 6.0-6.1. The number all Buffs fans should be excited about is that Colorado's percentage to win six games, which would guarantee a bowl game, jumped 10% from 57% to 67%. Clearly, FPI viewed Colorado's contest against Georgia Tech as a big hurdle in the Buffaloes' pursuit of six wins.

CU's place in the Big 12 FPI ranking held at No. 10, thanks to TCU's 10-spot drop following its loss to North Carolina.

With Weber State up next and Colorado opening as a heavy favorite , expect a big CU win to propel them up in the Football Power Index after a weird drop following an impressive Week 1 win.
