Ahmad Moten injury update: Latest news after Miami DT exits game

Miami football defensive tackle Ahmad Moten left the Hurricanes ' game Friday, Sept. 18 with an injury, but he was back after a brief trip to the locker room.

In the first quarter against Wake Forest , Moten was seen kneeling on the field after a 13-yard completion. Trainers came out to check on him.

Moten is the centerpiece of the Miami defensive line after edge rushers Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor left for the NFL draft. ESPN's replays showed safety Omar Thornton hitting his left arm on the play before.

Moten is projected as a potential late first-round draft pick. The fifth-year senior from Fort Lauderdale had 31 tackles (9 for loss) and 4.5 sacks in 2025.

At the start of Wake's next drive with about 13 minutes left in the second quarter, Moten was back on the field with a support device on his left shoulder.

With 6:53 remaining in the first quarter, Wake Forest quarterback Gio Lopez completed a pass to Ty Clark for 13 yards on a slant. After the play, Moten was kneeling on the field favoring his left shoulder. Trainers came to look at him, and he walked off the field with them.

The Miami defense was already hurting coming into the game, with both starting cornerbacks, O.J. Frederique and Xavier Lucas, hurt in the opener vs. Stanford. Frederique came out on the second play of that game, while Lucas finished the game but missed the following week against Florida A&M. Both are expected to miss the next several games.
