US Open rain delay halts play at outdoor courts
Rain delays have plagued the first round of the US Open.
The US Open is experiencing rain delays on Tuesday. First round matches scheduled to be played outside during the third day of action are on hold as bad weather passes. The roofs have been closed on both Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium with play continuing on the indoor courts.
Francisco Comesana and Flavio Cobolli are playing a men's match at Louis Armstrong Stadium and Madison Keyes took on Alina Korneeva at Arthur Ashe. Indoor matches will continue as scheduled.
Play was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET on the outdoor courts, but has been pushed to at least 1:30 p.m. ET. We will update once they announce a time those matches will resume.
Rain is expected to remain off and on throughout the day on Tuesday, which could cause some scheduling issues since we're still in the round of 128. Rain and lightning storms are expected in Flushing, Queens until the evening and even then there are showers in the forecast. It could continue like that for a few more days according to Weather.com .
Unfortunately, the threat of showers and thunderstorms is in play in the Northeast through Thursday. Some of these storms could pack strong winds, flooding, downpours, even hail and could lead to additional rain delays on the outer courts.
