Priya Ghanghas clinches bronze at Asian Games after 1-4 defeat in 60kg semifinal

Indian boxer Priya Ghanghas signed off with a bronze medal after her Asian Games campaign ended with a 1-4 defeat to former world champion Yang Chengyu of China in the women's 60kg semifinal on Wednesday.The 20-year-old, making her Asian Games debut, found herself up against a considerably more experienced opponent but fought her way to a place on the podium with her run to the last four.Asian Games Full Coverage | Schedule | Medal TallyYang, a former world champion, prevailed in the semifinal to book her place in the gold-medal bout, while Priya settled for bronze.Priya's medal adds to India's strong showing in boxing at the Games. Indian boxers have already bettered their medal tally from the previous edition in Hangzhou, where they won one silver and three bronze medals, by ensuring a six-medal haul this time.Parveen Hooda in the women's 65kg category and Ankush Panghal in the men's 80kg event have already secured their places in the finals, with both gold-medal bouts scheduled for Friday.Super heavyweight boxer Narender Berwal also signed off with a bronze medal on Tuesday.India's boxing campaign is not over yet, with Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Kapil Pokhariya still in contention for a place in the gold-medal bout on Wednesday. Lovlina will compete in the women's 75kg category, while Kapil is in action in the men's 90kg event.India retain compound archery crownIndia also added another gold medal on Wednesday as Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav won the compound mixed team title.The Indian pair edged Korea's Jungyoon Park and Choi Eun Gyu 158-157 after a tense shoot-off to claim gold and secure a 2028 Olympic quota place.Chikitha and Sahil had entered the final after beating Thailand 156-155 in the semifinals. China's Fangyao F Wei and Jinyi Liu won the bronze medal.Earlier, India's women's compound team retained its Asian Games title.
