Red Sox Sit Jarren Duran, Shake Up Lineup For Rangers Matchup

The Boston Red Sox will give their lineup a significantly different look Wednesday night as they attempt to respond to a frustrating series-opening loss. Jarren Duran is out of the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-hander MacKenzie Gore . Mickey Gasper and Nick Sogard also will begin the game on the bench after starting Tuesday's 4-2 defeat at Globe Life Field.

Jahmai Jones will replace Gasper at designated hitter and bat second. Isiah Kiner-Falefa enters at second base, while Nate Eaton will take over for Duran in center field.

Boston officially announced its revamped batting order on X before the second game of the three-game series. Roman Anthony remains in the leadoff spot and will play left field. Wilyer Abreu moves from fifth to third, while Willson Contreras stays in the cleanup spot.

Adley Rutschman drops two places in the order after batting third Tuesday. The catcher will hit fifth, followed by Caleb Durbin , Trevor Story , Kiner-Falefa and Eaton.

Jake Bennett will start on the mound for Boston. The left-hander enters Wednesday with a 9-7 record, a 3.69 ERA and 83 strikeouts. Gore will oppose Bennett for Texas. The Rangers left-hander is 8-11 with a 4.62 ERA and 172 strikeouts.

The matchup with Gore likely contributed to manager Chad Tracy loading the bottom half of his lineup with right-handed hitters. Jones, Contreras, Durbin, Story, Kiner-Falefa and Eaton all will bat from the right side. Boston needs a better collective offensive performance after producing only two runs in Tuesday's opener. Sogard supplied both with a two-run home run against Jacob deGrom in the third inning, but the Red Sox could not complete the comeback after falling behind 4-0.

The loss dropped Boston to 82-69 with only 11 regular-season games remaining. The Red Sox entered Wednesday 9 1/2 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East and 5 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees .

Wednesday's first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET at Globe Life Field. NESN will carry the game.
