President Trump on Sunday exploded at comedian Bill Maher in a Truth Social post calling him a “coward who is afraid to tell the truth.”

Trump launched his post by accusing Maher of being a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER” and that his HBO show “Real Time” was “not ‘HOT’ anymore.”

“He isn’t worth it,” Trump wrote later in the post. “Bill: Don’t call anymore. It’s useless. … You’re also a coward who is afraid to tell the truth about how well our Country is running because of your few ‘fans,’ and how badly the Dumocrats have done, almost destroying the U.S.A.”

“If I hadn’t won the Election, it would be DEAD!” Trump continued. “Also, turn your Laugh Machine off, it’s a joke when they laugh uncontrollably, even when you saynothing funny, and I’m going to have the Republicans not cover you anymore, because they try to talk about you as a guy who is transformative.”

“You’re not transformative, you’re a Loser!” he added.

Last week, Maher attended a dinner with Trump, joined by musician Kid Rock and sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, at the White House. Maher previously dined with Trump last year, and former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt appeared on “Real Time” as a guest last week.

Trump said Maher’s show became “far worse” after the second dinner, and that he “went crazy!”

“Karoline Leavitt was GREAT on the show, but she started with a biased, dumb SLEAZEBAG, asking questions,” Trump wrote. “She defended me, and herself, so well, but couldn’t be comfortable going against Lie after Lie.”

He accused Maher of lying about the Department of Justice’s legal battle with California over its voter rolls, requesting that the state set aside 20,000 ballots for noncitizens ahead of the midterm elections.

“Just in the last few days alone, they found 20,000, and the number could easily go to over 1,000,000,” Trump wrote. “There were so many other falsehoods Bill spewed, but I won’t waste time in FACT CHECKING him. He isn’t worth it.”

The liberal comic has been a longtime critic of Trump’s, though he faced backlash over his dinner with Trump in early 2025 after warning about the results of a second Trump presidency. He defended both dinners with the president, telling viewers on Friday that it allowed him to press Trump on different issues.

“Yeah, I did it again, b‑‑‑‑,” Maher said. “I go and say face-to-face to the man the things you write in articles he’ll never read, but OK. You know what? F‑‑‑ you. I like these dinners.”

“Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David, another vocal Trump critic, notably lampooned Maher’s first dinner with Trump in The New York Times with the op-ed “My Dinner with Adolf,” which Maher accused of being “insulting to 6 million dead Jews.” Both comedians are of Jewish descent.
