Empty Bottles have always been one of the most useful items in any Zelda game as they let you store potions, fairies, bugs, and more! But actually getting the bottles isn’t always the most simple. Of course, Bottles are here in the Ocarina of Time Remake, and there’s even a brand new fifth one! So in this video guide, we’ll show you how to obtain all 5 bottles in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2!

The first bottle you can obtain here in the remake is actually the brand new bottle exclusive to this Switch 2 remake. Upon your first visit to Hyrule Castle Town, stop by the Potion Shop. There’s an old man outside who says there’s some sort of ruckus happening inside.

Speak to the Potion Shopkeeper, who reveals that a bug has escaped within the shop. He’ll give you an Empty Bottle specifically to find and catch the bug inside. This serves as a good little tutorial that you can keep bugs in bottles, so you can later drop them into some soft soil. Anyway, after catching the bug, the shopkeeper thanks you, and rewards you with a Red Potion…and you get to keep the bottle!

The second bottle can be obtained just after meeting Princess Zelda for the first time and returning to Hyrule Field. Head South to Lon Lon Ranch, and enter the house on the right-side of the map. Inside you’ll find Talon asleep once again, with a bunch of cuccos.

Speak to him, and he’ll challenge you to play the cucco-finding game, a minigame to find his three Super Cuccos in the flock. You get thirty seconds to pick up all three Super Cuccos, and the camera starts off fixed so you don’t really get to see where they go beyond the initial direction. Try to keep track of which cuccos you’ve already picked up as you scatter the flock. He’ll note when you pick up a Super Cucco.

Here’s a hint to find them: the three Super Cuccos have a different posture from the rest, and their walk cycle is slightly different. If you keep a close eye on them before they fly away, you might be able to spot them in the crowd. Successfully find all three, and Talon will reward you with a brand new bottle, filled with Lon Lon Milk!

The third bottle can also be obtained just after meeting Princess Zelda for the first time as Young Link. As you pass through Kakariko Village on your initial trip to Death Mountain, you can complete a side quest here to get the third bottle.

In the village, in the Southwest between the building under construction and Impa’s house, speak to the Cucco Lady, who reveals that all of her cuccos have escaped. If you find all seven of them scattered across the town, she’ll reward you with an Empty Bottle. With each cucco you find, bring them back to the pen and throw them inside to successfully collect them.

The lady will give you hints as to the general area of each cucco, but let’s go over exactly where to find them all. There isn’t a specific order you need to obtain them in, but this is what we did:

The first cucco is close by, in the construction site near the Cucco Lady herself, wandering around the scaffolding in the middle.

The second cucco is near the entrance to Kakariko Village itself, just by the gate.

The third cucco is inside a wooden crate near the center of town, on the side of the building where the lady cooking food for the village resides.

Before returning this cucco to the pen, bring it up to Impa’s house, and use it to glide down to the fourth cucco, which is found on top of the nearby pile of bricks.

The fifth cucco is found on the main path up towards Death Mountain Trail, heading north up the stairs past the tall wooden tower.

The next two cuccos are a bit harder to reach. Take any of the previous cuccos and bring it up to the windmill on the west side of town. Using the cucco you’re already holding, you can glide over this gap in the fence to reach the other side. Once over here, throw the cucco back over the fence so it doesn’t become stuck on this side. One of these Cuccos is on the other side, below the closed Potion House.

After tossing the last two Cuccos over the fence toward the well so you can collect them, climb up the nearby ladder to a hilltop behind the windmill, where you'll find the final Cucco.

When you grab the Cucco on top of the hill behind the Windmill, make sure to leap over to the roof of Granny's Potion Shop (which is sadly closed for the time being). Carefully move to the other side of the blue roof closer to the wooden tower, and you'll find a man lounging on the lower roof section. He'll be so happy someone's come to see him that he'll give you a Piece of Heart! Piece of Heart #2

When you've returned all seven Cuccos to the Cucco Lady, she'll award you a new Empty Bottle to keep, giving you even more room to store milk, potions, and bugs!

The fourth bottle is the only one that’s actually required to be able to complete the game, as you obtain it through story progression. You’ll need this bottle to catch a fish to be able to enter Jabu-Jabu’s Belly, rescue Princess Ruto, and obtain the Zora Sapphire.

When you first reach Zora’s Domain, participate in the Diving Lesson at the top of the waterfall. Dive in the water and collect all five scales that were thrown in to complete the minigame, earning you the Silver Scale, allowing Link to dive for longer. Once you have the Silver Scale, dive into this underwater tunnel, leading you to Lake Hylia.

Near this tunnel is a bottle, sunken down to the underwater ruins. You may see it glistening in the water at night. Dive down and collect the bottle, revealing that it has a letter inside from Princess Ruto. Bring the letter to King Zora, and he will let you keep the Empty Bottle!

The fifth and final bottle is the only one obtained as Adult Link, and it’s also the most complex of them all. You’ll have to find and catch 5 out of 10 Big Poes across Hyrule Field, and bring them to the Poe Collector in the Ghost Shop in the remains of Hyrule Castle Town.

If you speak to the Poe Collector and ask him about points, he reveals that he’ll give you something for catching poes if you earn 500 points. You earn 100 points per Big Poe brought to him.

You’ll have to approach these locations with Epona and your Fairy Bow, meaning you won’t be able to obtain this bottle until after you at least claim the item from the Forest Temple, and rescue Epona from Lon Lon Ranch. The spawn locations are long, horizontal objects that glow with an eerie purple light, getting brighter as you approach. Epona will have to leap over these obstacles in order to spawn the Big Poe, who then flees away from you.

A Poe needs to be shot with two arrows to be defeated. Once defeated, store them in an empty bottle. Once you have the Poes in bottles, bring them back to the Poe Collector in Castle Town. Sell him the Poes to earn your points. After selling 5 Big Poes, you’ll be rewarded with an Empty Bottle!
