‘Something new is coming from Windows,’ says Microsoft.

Microsoft is holding a Windows and Surface event in San Francisco next week. With Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in attendance, it was already clear that RTX Spark PCs would be the main focus of the event. Watch Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robot change a drill bit with its new four-fingered hands.

The redesigned hands have 13 degrees of freedom and “dense tactile pressure sensors” that allow Atlas to use real-world tools, like the drill it tries out in a demo video. Boston Dynamics also ditched the pinky finger on the new hands to “reduce cost, size, and failure points.” Maybe Tesla will go a similar route with its bot? The NYC Council’s marathon e-bike hearing seemed like a waste of time.

The hearing, ostensibly on a massive package of 21 bills pertaining to e-bike safety, lasted approximately seven hours — but amounted to very little. First announced in May, the joint venture aims to expand network connectivity by pooling spectrum resources and bringing satellite coverage to more parts of the US. Samsung’s smart glasses might arrive next month.

The Galaxy Buds On are Samsung’s first clip-on earbuds.

In a pinch, Waymo relies on cops and firefighters to move its robotaxis.

The company has a roadside assistance team that it dispatches to move vehicles when they get trapped. But sometimes Waymo needs emergency responders to actually get behind the wheel. TechCrunch got the 911 dispatches and incident reports from California: > “Highway patrol turned everyone around, but unfortunately our car is not able to turn around,” one of Waymo’s remote assistance workers told an area 911 dispatcher, according to a recording obtained by TechCrunch in a public records request. The employee wanted officers on the scene to drive the robotaxi away, and to arrange transportation for the passenger inside.
