‘Threw up in my mouth’ – Mike Tomlin explains ‘disgusted’ reaction to Cam Skattebo fumble

Cam Skattebo's fumble during overtime may have cost the New York Giants the game, but it drew a far more visceral reaction from Mike Tomlin.

The Giants ended up tying with the Commanders after late mistakes from both offensive units kept the game from having a definitive winner.

Skattebo's fumble with two minutes remaining in overtime cost the Giants the chance to complete an incredible comeback win in overtime.

Speaking on NBC Sports after the New York Giants and Washington Commanders played to a tie in their all-important NFC East clash, Mike Tomlin had some harsh words for Cam Skattebo.

He lambasted Skattebo for wasting a chance to win a crucial division game, and said that seeing Skattebo fumble the ball made him physically ill.

Tomlin said: "I describe it as disgusting. Division wins are too precious in the National Football League. I was disgusted by the Skattebo fumble. I threw up in my mouth a little bit at the end of the game.

"It's just tough. We'll never know what happened. The head coach said what he was supposed to say. The quarterback said what he was supposed to say.

"But it's just tough, man. Division wins are very precious. They had one in their hands, and they let it slip."

With close to two minutes remaining in overtime, after the Giants had clawed their way back from a 14-point hole, John Harbaugh's side were in field-goal range.

On a first-down about 23 yards away from the Commanders' end zone, QB Jameis Winston handed the ball off to Skattebo, who tried to carry the ball through the middle to gain more yardage.

Commanders DL Daron Payne knocked the ball out of Skattebo's hands, allowing Shy Tuttle to recover it and give the Commanders possession.

Fortunately for Skattebo and the Giants, the Commanders squandered their chance at a win as Jayden Daniels bizarrely let the clock run out before the Commanders could attempt a game-winning field goal.

After the game, Skattebo admitted that it was his mistake that cost the Giants a chance to win the game and took responsibility for the incident.
