H-D, Chateaugay, P-H win boys soccer games

NAC soccer has been a season of one goal games in the boys West Division. The trend continued Wednesday as Hermon-DeKalb outscored Morristown 3-2 in boys' action.

In NAC East boys action, Chateaugay shaded Madrid-Waddington 2-1 and Parishville-Hopkinton blanked Colton-Pierrepont 5-0.

H-D 3 - MCS 2: The Green Demons took leads of 1-0 and 3-1 in securing a win in a match of 2-1-1 teams.

"This division is going to go right down to the end. All of our games but one have been one goal games and I think that its going to be like that the whole season across the division," said Morristown Coach Jake VanArnam. "Today we didn't have our regular goalie and we had a midfielder get sick 10 minutes into the game and never return. They we had three players who couldn't play the second half because previous commitment. But Ayden Mitchell did a good job in net and we had some young guys playing unfamiliar roles step up and help us stay in the game."

Ethan Foster opened the scoring for H-D knocking home the ball in a scramble off a throw-in.

Owen Moore countered late in the first half by directing a low shot just inside the left goalpost. Ashtyn Smith scored early the second half for the Green Demons unassisted and Khristoffe Sy finished a Micha Walrath setup for a 3-1 lead.

Wyatt Clement revised Morristown's cause by netting a penalty shot. Hunter Bouchey made nine saves for H-D with a penalty shot stop and Mitchell finished with eight stops for MCS.

Chateaugay 2 - M-W 1: The Bulldogs broke a 1-1 tie with 16 minutes to play on a long throw-in after the Chateaugay goalie held firm in the face of sustained M-W offensive pressure. The Yellow Jackets gained a 1-1 tie five minutes before halftime when Zach Gilson finished a rebound opportunity from Kolby Todd.

"The second half was deadlocked with each team having scoring chances. We had two opportunities to punch in a second goal but the Chateaugay goalie held strong. Now we need to bounce back against Lisbon," said M-W Coach Quinn Shoen.
