Western Michigan Called 'Undefeated Football Team' by Boise St. HC After Controversial Michigan Game

Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson apparently doesn't feel Michigan's controversial season-opening win should impact Western Michigan's record.

Danielson referred to Western Michigan as "undefeated" when discussing his team's upcoming matchup against the Broncos.

"I saw a little bit of what happened with the Michigan, Western Michigan game early on—when I went back and studied this, unbelievable," Danielson said during a Monday press conference.

"I mean, they're an undefeated football team. Period, end of story... you watch that game, they absolutely beat Michigan, at Michigan, and that's not hype. That's what happened."

Michigan secured a 13-12 victory over Western Michigan on Sept. 5 when Bryce Underwood threw a Hail Mary touchdown one play after the game clock appeared to expire on a heave out of bounds. One second was ultimately put back on the clock, which the NCAA later concluded was a mistake.

Despite a MAC appeal and an NCAA ruling that "the outcome of the game would have been different" had correct instant replay protocol been followed, the NCAA and the FBS Oversight Committee both stated they didn't have the authority to overturn the final result.

The College Football Playoff also announced it lacks ability to strip the win from Michigan, but noted in a statement factors other than overall records impact playoff odds.

Western Michigan has gone on to defeat Monmouth and Rice since the controversial loss to Michigan. The Broncos will now look to improve to 3-1 when Boise State comes to town Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff in Kalamazoo.
