Lane Kiffin was hired as LSU head coach to lead the program back to prominence, but not everyone is convinced of his chances for immediate success.

Ahead of the 2026 college football season, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman polled 18 FBS coaches on multiple topics, including "Which team do you think is the biggest fraud and is getting overhyped?" Kiffin's Tigers topped the list with seven votes.

"LSU. I think it'll be hard for them to build team chemistry," an SEC defensive coordinator said. "I could see them imploding."

LSU is part of the latest drama surrounding college football, as players who were in NFL training camps were brought in as late additions to the Tigers' roster amid ongoing litigation to determine their eligibility for the 2026 campaign.

"I think all these things that are happening around LSU right now are gonna end up being too much of a distraction," a Mountain West head coach added.

Kiffin will do his best to keep his players focused on doing their jobs on the field, but it's hard to ignore all the hubbub surrounding the program entering the year. It seems that his presence won't provide a quick fix for the Tigers as they try to return to national championship contention.
