Roberto De Zerbi makes brutal Richarlison call after confirming Tottenham's Premier League roster

Roberto De Zerbi has omitted Richarlison from his Premier League squad for Tottenham Hotspur's upcoming season, while injured duo Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert have both been included.

Every Premier League club is required to register a 25-man squad comprising a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players and eight homegrown players. Spurs had one more non-homegrown player than permitted, forcing De Zerbi to drop someone from the roster.

Richarlison was informed he would not feature in De Zerbi's plans for the season prior to the Premier League transfer deadline, giving him the opportunity to depart the North London club once a suitable offer was received, according to football.london .

De Zerbi had revealed to football.london that Richarlison had repeatedly expressed his desire to leave the club this summer. However, in the closing days of the transfer window, the 29-year-old voiced his frustration with Tottenham's negotiations with Everton regarding a return to his former club, and no agreement could be reached.

Turkish club Trabzonspor have now been linked with a move for the striker, who finished as Spurs' leading scorer last season, before their transfer window shuts. Richarlison has 10 months remaining on his contract, though Tottenham hold an option to extend it by a further year.

Both Xavi and Odobert have been included in the squad despite currently undergoing rehabilitation from anterior cruciate ligament injuries. Odobert is anticipated to return before the close of the year, while Xavi is targeting a comeback sooner than most would anticipate from such a serious long-term knee injury.

Dejan Kulusevski also earns his place in the squad after confirming his return to full training 477 days after sustaining his complex knee injury. Newly signed 22-year-old goalkeeper Jacob Knightbridge claims the eighth and final homegrown spot following Dane Scarlett's permanent departure to Leyton Orient.
