Regis Le Bris' Sunderland side were shocking in the 3-1 defeat at Coventry City

Sunderland have now made seven individual errors directly leading to goals conceded this season following the Coventry City defeat, and Regis Le Bris has demanded change as a result.

Sunderland were battered 3-1 by Coventry on Saturday, seeing Frank Lampard's side come out best in every department after goals from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Taiwo Awoniyi and Jack Rudoni, with Enzo Le Fee netting an inconsequential penalty which failed to inspire a face-saving comeback.

On a scary Halloween performance from Sunderland , the Black Cats ironically dug their own graves on the spooky afternoon, with the Black Cats yet again making grave errors in defence.

It is one of many extremely worrying aspects of Sunderland's play this season, and one which Le Bris must solve rapidly, as in his words, it will see the opponent "kill you," as Coventry emphatically did.

Regis Le Bris Demands Sunderland Stop 'Unacceptable' Issue

For Coventry's opening goal, Trai Hume's failed attempted clearance unfortunately ricocheted of teammate Luke O'Nien to see the ball kindly to the feet of Sakamoto, with the Japanese international curling a stellar low strike past Robin Roefs to break the deadlock after just 16 minutes and set the Sky Blues on course for a comfortable win.

Just twenty minutes later, with Sunderland showing no signs of improvement, the Black Cats once again caused their own downfall in defence to allow Awoniyi far too much space and freedom for the second.

Chris Rigg's ball into O'Nien saw the Sunderland defender dispossessed before Coventry frontman Awoniyi broke through and burst through several last failed tackle attempts from the recovering Black Cats defence to fire past Roefs and double his side's advantage.

Far too often this season, Sunderland have collectively dug their own graves in defence with costly individual errors, and Le Bris is desperate to extinguish this element of the rock-bottom Black Cats' current state going forward.

Le Bris told Sunderland's media after Coventry: "We gave two opportunities from two unforced errors.

"But this inconsistency is not acceptable at all. Consistency is the key word in this league. If you keep making individual mistakes, the opponent will kill you.

"We won't give up. We're trying to find solutions."

Another worrying element of Sunderland's defensive play is the increased ill-discipline in Le Bris' side, with the Black Cats now having the highest amount of red cards (three) so far this season within the Premier League after the once-again shocking Omar Alderete was given his marching orders in injury time by referee Simon Hooper.

However, red cards can be put down to game state and the fact that every team in the Premier League will pick up a red at points throughout the campaign.

But crucially, no Premier League side makes as many individual errors in defence as Sunderland have done (seven) so far this season, and these costly mistakes could cost Le Bris his job at the Stadium of Light if they are not stamped out, and soon.
