The Pittsburgh Steelers sent scouts around the country this weekend to check out prospects for the 2027 NFL Draft. This includes having representatives at two games that featured a pair of the top quarterback prospects.
Pittsburgh sent representatives to the USC versus Rutgers and USC quarterback Joyden Maiava. Maiava ia a big, athletic thrower with a strong arm and great leadership who needs to show more consistency. USC got the win over Rutgers in a shootout, 42-35. Maiava threw went 20-for-32 and finished with 272 passing yards and two passing touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Steelers also sent scouts to Notre Dame versus Michigan State, featuring Fighting Irish quarterback CJ Carr. Carr was relatively quiet in the 27-10 win with just 234 passing yards on 18-of-24 throwing. Carr didn't throw a touchdown but did have a nine-yard rushing score.
Most pundits consider Carr a fringe first-round option who could solidify his spot at the third or fourth quarterback off the board with a strong season. Maiava is more of a wildcard in the draft but would be a nice value pick in the late second or third round.
