After signing a massive extension, Christian Gonzalez looks to prove his value for the Patriots . That includes facing a top-tier receiver when the team takes on the Steelers in Week 2.

When the Patriots face the Steelers at Gillette Stadium , Gonzalez will have the opportunity to take on DK Metcalf , someone he hasn't played against since his second season in the NFL.

Gonzalez had 59 tackles in 2024, with two interceptions in 16 games. When the Patriots faced the Seahawks on September 14, Metcalf, with Seattle then, caught 10 passes for 129 yards, scoring a touchdown in a 23-20 Seattle win . Gonzalez had six tackles that game.

Metcalf signed with the Steelers last year. He had over 850 receiving yards, the lowest yard total in his career. At 6-foot-4, he is an intimidating figure. Gonzalez doesn't seem to mind. He's ready to compete against him again.

"Obviously a very strong, physical receiver. Very fast. Can run. They do a lot with him. I mean, [I'm] just excited for the matchup. I respect his game. He's been doing it for a while. He's been a No. 1 receiver in this league," Gonzalez said via Heavy . "I saw him in my second year last year… I'm just excited for another opportunity."

A 2023 NFL Draft pick, Gonzalez, in his fourth NFL season, agreed to a four-year, $135 million extension, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history. He had two pass breakups and two tackles against the Seahawks during Week 1.

With another opportunity to play against Metcalf, Gonzalez aims to step it up against one of the NFL's top receivers.
