Jacoby Brissett Calls Out Fantasy Players About Kendrick Bourne and Hypes Jeremiyah Love

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett knew a big game from wide receiver Kendrick Bourne wasn't what a lot of fantasy football managers had planned in Week 1.

"I'm pretty sure none of y'all had him on your fantasy (team)," Brissett said in his postgame press conference. "He was just in the right spot at the right time on a lot of plays. We put him there because we trust him there."

Bourne caught eight passes for 75 yards as Arizona upset the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14.

Rookie running back Jeremiyah Love was equal parts encouraging and frustrating. He finished with 41 rushing yards and a touchdown but had six fewer carries than Tyler Allgeier.

Regardless of his usage, Brissett believes Love is a special talent in the backfield.

Overreactions are inevitable after Week 1. Teams are never the finished product in their first game.

The Cardinals may have encountered the Chargers, a contender with big ambitions, at the perfect time. Or perhaps Arizona was underestimated coming into the year.

Brissett demonstrated why he won the starting job by going 27-of-37 for 277 yards and one touchdown. Thanks to the efforts of Love and Allgeier, the offense gained 116 yards on the ground. And the defense forced two turnovers while limiting Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert to 209 yards through the air.

In the case of Brissett, there's a reason he has bounced around the NFL the last few years and failed to be a full-time starter permanently. His steady hand should at least keep the Cardinals on track as they continue to figure out their long-term direction.

Even if Arizona winds up with a losing record when all is said and done, the team can provide signs under first-year coach Mike LaFleur to generate optimism about 2027 and beyond.
