Ben Johnson Doubles Down on Wanting Historic NFL Offense After Bears' Win vs. Panthers

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson said in August that he wants to be the NFL's highest-scoring offense ever, and after Week 1, he's off to a good start.

The Bears beat the Carolina Panthers 59-37 on Sunday, and Johnson doubled down on his comments afterwards.

"That will always be the goal," he told reporters . "We want to be the highest scoring, we want to have the most wins, we want to win Super Bowls. That's what we do. We didn't get into this profession trying to be mediocre or average."

The highest-scoring offense in NFL history was the 2013 Denver Broncos, who averaged 37.9 points per game behind a record-breaking season from legendary quarterback Peyton Manning.

The Bears might not have Manning under center, but they have a promising young quarterback in Caleb Williams, who threw for 269 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

What was more impressive was the Bears' run game, which accounted for 291 yards of the team's 552 yards. D'Andre Swift had 124 yards and three touchdowns, while Kyle Monangai added 100 yards and a score. Williams picked up 65 yards and two scores on the ground.

It's hard to imagine Chicago will be able to match its offense in Week 2, but Johnson made it clear that he has every intention to continue piling on points. The Bears will look for another offensive showing against the Minnesota Vikings next week.
