New Tyson Bagent Injury Update Revealed Ahead of Bears' Game vs. Eagles amid Caleb Williams' Injury

Caleb Williams' hamstring isn't the only injury the Chicago Bears have to worry about heading into their Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent is in the NFL's concussion protocol, which means third-stringer Case Keenum may be tasked with taking the field against the Eagles on Monday. However, Bagent has made progress and has yet to be ruled out, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

Williams suffered the injury during Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, and Bagent entered the game in the fourth quarter with the team trailing.

He had an opportunity to win it, but the offense stalled ahead of a blocked field goal on his first possession. It then moved into the red zone in the final seconds trailing by six only for it to turn the ball over on downs on the final play of the 9-3 loss.

Still, having more than a week to prepare for the Eagles alongside head coach Ben Johnson figured to put Bagent in a better spot to succeed than when he was thrown into the fourth quarter of a divisional showdown in rainy conditions.

Yet those plans are apparently on hold as he is in concussion protocol, leaving Chicago's quarterback situation tenuous at best.

Keenum is a veteran who has 66 career starts during a career that includes stops with the Houston Texans, St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, Vikings, Denver Broncos, Washington, Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills.

But he hasn't started a game since he went 1-1 during the 2023 campaign. Starting him against a playoff contender such as the Eagles was not in the cards for the Bears heading into the season.

Ultimately, Chicago's long-term outlook for the season depends on Williams' status. Johnson said he is considered "week-to-week," although Rapoport noted he will "likely" be out against Philadelphia.

If Bagent is out as well, the Bears will be staring at an uphill battle in their next game.
