Chris Olave draws same fine for taunting as uncalled Ravens facemask

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith received fines from last week's game between the two teams. Each player was fined for separate incidents during the Saints 24-17 victory at Baltimore. The NFL announced the decisions on Saturday.

Olave was fined $11,941 for taunting/unsportsman behavior towards Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey . That infraction happened on a 20-yard completion from quarterback Tyler Shough to Olave down the left sideline against Humphrey late in the first quarter of last week's game. The play picked up a first down into Ravens territory. However, Olave was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct (taunting), pushing New Orleans back 15 yards. NFL insider Tom Pelissero observed that the Olave fine was one of 22 issued by the league last week for obscene gestures or illegal celebrations.

Smith was fined $11,941 for a face mask infraction on Saints quarterback Tyler Shough. That happened with 1:32 left in the fourth quarter on a quarterback sneak by Shough, resulting in a touchdown that would give New Orleans a 24-17 lead. The play was reviewed and upheld by replay. Shough's head was twisted backwards during the run, but Smith was not penalized on the play.
