ESPN's Adam Schefter isn't buying into speculation that the Minnesota Vikings could look to reunite with Kirk Cousins ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline.
"[Cousins] is the perfect mentor to their No. 1 pick who they don't want to rush along, and who they want to leave on the bench... Why are the Raiders trading Kirk Cousins to Minnesota? Why are they doing that?" Schefter asked around the 22:00 mark of Thursday's episode of the Adam Schefter Podcast.
Schefter concluded, "It makes no sense to me."
The Raiders have since gotten off to a 4-4 start behind Cousins, who has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 2,124 passing yards, with 2026 top pick Fernando Mendoza serving as his backup.
He ranks second in the NFL with 19 touchdown passes with just five interceptions through Week 8.
The Athletic's Michael Silver asked earlier this week if the Vikings could explore a trade for Cousins or the Indianapolis Colts' Daniel Jones in the wake of Kyler Murray's hamstring injury.
"My sense is that nothing has been ruled out," Silver reported.
The Ringer's Tom Pelissero said Wednesday on KFAN he felt there was a "low percentage change" the Vikings took a big swing at the trade deadline.
Should the Raiders choose to stick with Cousins to continue pushing for the top of the AFC West while Mendoza continues focusing on his development, the Vikings would have to either seek another quarterback in the next five days or rely on Carson Wentz until Murray is able to return.
Wentz is currently on track to start when the Raiders kick off their Week 9 matchup at the San Francisco 49ers Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
