The latest reports about Lamar Jackson's Ravens future have fans on social media more than a little riled up.
Lamar Jackson has been placed on injured reserve following the injury to his thumb. This has severely impacted the Baltimore Ravens, who are also dealing with an injury to backup QB Tyler Huntley. Another year of big expectations will likely end up in disappointment.
Jackson is no longer a young QB. He is 29 years of age and is supposed to be well in the middle of his prime. However, health issues have become a big narrative over the past couple of seasons. With that in mind, his next contract has become a contentious topic among fans.
Lamar Jackson in line to become NFL's 'highest-paid' star ever and Ravens fans are questioning it
In 2023, Jackson signed a 5-year, $260 million deal with the team. That runs out in 2027, meaning that the team has a big decision to make. Despite his struggles, it would be unexpected if the Ravens chose to move on from Lamar. However, the alternative might be pretty bad too.
According to a recent report from NBC Sports, the team could be on the hook to pay Jackson some big money once again and this time, a lot of fans don't like the idea.
"For what? To sit on the bench for more than half the season?" one fan asked. "And how will you pay for good offensive line to protect him or good wide receivers/tight ends?" another questioned. "This would be the dumbest move I've seen in a while, he's made of glass," a third fan commented.
"The Ravens won't win a Super Bowl with Lamar, so stop wasting everyone's time," a different comment read. "Only way this is working is if they win a ring in 2028 and that's probably not happening," claimed a fifth fan. "I love Lamar but this is a terrible idea," a sixth fan simply said.
Jackson's future is unlikely to lie away from Baltimore, but he has a lot of leverage when it comes to contract negotiations. Despite his recent injury record, QBs like Lamar aren't easy to replace. The Ravens have a massive decision on their hands.
