New NFL Rumors on Saints' Alvin Kamara Amid Trade Speculation From Teams at 2026 Deadline
Trade rumors and speculation are surrounding longtime New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara ahead of the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline.
Trade rumors and speculation are surrounding longtime New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara ahead of the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline.
According to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, "multiple teams have mused" about Kamara's potential availability.
Kamara has long been resistant to playing elsewhere, and Jones referenced a quote from Kamara last season when he said, "If [general manager] Mickey [Loomis] comes down and says [they're trading me], I'm going to go drink a piña colada somewhere."
There was plenty of smoke around the idea of the Saints moving on from Kamara this past offseason, especially after signing running back Travis Etienne in free agency.
However, Kamara and the Saints renegotiated his deal , making it a one-year, $6 million pact for 2026.
With Etienne being limited to three games so far this season due to a hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve, the 31-year-old Kamara has split time in the backfield with Kendre Miller.
Kamara is third on the team in rushing yardage (125) and tied for the team lead with two rushing touchdowns. He also leads Saints running backs with 22 receptions for 133 yards and one score.
New Orleans' running game has been virtually non-existent, though, as the Saints rank 27th in the NFL with 86 rushing yards per game.
Because of that and the reality of Etienne returning to the lineup at some point, perhaps it could make Kamara expendable.
While it is clear that Kamara is in the twilight of his career, he was once among the best and most complete running backs in the NFL.
A five-time Pro Bowler, Kamara has rushed for 7,375 yards and 63 touchdowns, along with catching 628 passes for 5,081 yards and 26 touchdowns over 10 NFL seasons.
Kamara finished with at least 1,100 yards from scrimmage in each of his first eight seasons, and he scored double-digit touchdowns in three of those seasons as well, including a league-leading 21 in 2020.
While Kamara is averaging just 3.0 yards per carry this season after averaging 3.6 last season, he is still an effective pass-catcher that could help a contending team.
The Saints don't seem like a contending team on the surface with a 2-5 record, but given how weak the NFC South is, they are just one game out of first place.
Because of that and Kamara's past unwillingness to go elsewhere, keeping Kamara in the fold may be the most likely scenario when the trade deadline arrives.
