Los Angeles Rams defensive end Aaron Donald is yet to record a sack this season, but the veteran isn't concerned by his lack of statistics.
"No. I didn't come back for individual stats," Donald said on whether or not his lack of sacks bothered him. "I would love to have some stats, but I'm here to just play the game. When the plays present themselves, take advantage of it, try to get my plays, but my main focus is trying to find ways to help this team win.
"That's the goal. I didn't come back to try to earn individual accolades or anything. I did that, accomplished that. It doesn't excite me. The only thing that excites me is winning so I'm just playing a football game, trying to do what I can to help this team. As long as we win, I can build off everything else and get myself better off that."
Donald spent 10 seasons with the Rams from 2014-23, retiring at the end of the 2023 season. With the Rams, Donald won everything there was to win. He brought the team a Super Bowl and earned three Defensive Player of the Year awards as well as 10 Pro Bowl selections.
He made an unprecedented return from retirement this offseason, joining Myles Garrett—who has only played one game so far—after the Rams traded for him, but the team's results are yet to show. The Rams currently sit at 3-4, third in the NFC West, though their defense has been stellar. While he doesn't have a sack, Garrett has two tackles for loss and 10 total tackles on the season, as well as a fumble recovery.
Did Aaron Donald Ever Finish a Season Without a Sack?
While Donald is yet to record a sack, history shows he's going to break out of that drought sooner rather than later.
Over the first 10 seasons of his career, Donald never logged fewer than five sacks in a season, and had as many as 20.5 during those years. He clearly has the knowledge and ability to break out, and it's only a matter of time until he does so.
Donald's next opportunity to make a difference and help the Rams win comes Sunday, when they face off against the Los Angeles Chargers at 1:25 p.m. PT.
