Sunday featured 12 one-score games, tying the single-week NFL record

If Sunday felt like an especially tight set of games in the NFL, your instincts are keen.

Week 3 delivered 12 one-score games in the 15 games (and counting), which is tied for the most in a single week in NFL history, via NBC's Maria Taylor.

The fact that all 12 happened on one day made it feel all the more dramatic and momentous. After a blowout Thursday, with the Falcons stomping the Packers , it was the day the NFL needed — especially with Caleb Williams out and the Bears potentially down to their third-string quarterback when they face the Eagles on Monday night.

The early slate of games Sunday featured seven, maybe even eight decent or better games out of nine. The Steelers and Bengals treated us to an unexpected shootout . The Colts beat the Texans in a rock fight. Now, maybe Giants-Titans wasn't your one-score cup of tea, but there was something around the league for everyone.

Even Chiefs-Dolphins was a one-score game until Kansas City added a cushion touchdown in the final three minutes. The only true stinker was the Jaguars stomping the Patriots , which arguably magnifies the spotlight on New England .

But as the games whittled down, the excitement only grew. The afternoon quartet was 4 for 4: every game within one score, and a few wild ones among them.

Ravens-Cowboys in Brazil was a last-second thriller that had storylines galore: field conditions, two great quarterbacks dueling, huge momentum swings, controversy and a last-second game-winner . Something about the games in that country … all three have been one-score affairs.

Commanders-Seahawks was arguably the most shocking result of Sunday – and maybe the weirdest. Cardinals-49ers never quit on us, either, with the teams trading blows (and points) for four quarters. There wasn't much room to breathe or stretch all afternoon.

The entree, however, arrived Sunday night — the best-for-last thriller between the Rams and Broncos .

When the Rams took a 16-0 halftime lead, it appeared to be headed for Snoozeville. But the Broncos ripped off a 30-10 run to storm back and win , with four lead changes in the fourth quarter. This game also had a serious dose of controversy on a late-game phantom DPI call that crushed the Rams — and probably should have clinched the win for Los Angeles .

Start to finish, Sunday was a monster. It will be hard for Eagles-Bears to upstage Sunday's action, but if the final result is within eight points, we'll have had a record-breaking week in the NFL.
