The Green Bay Packers will be using a running back-by-committee "for a little bit" as the team moves forward without starter Josh Jacobs, who is unavailable for an undetermined amount of time after being placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List .

Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich revealed that news to reporters on Tuesday.

Without Jacobs, the running back room consists of MarShawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks and Kaleb Johnson.

By all accounts, Lloyd figures to be the leader (he is No. 1 on the Ourlads and ESPN depth charts), although the "running back-by-committee" comment here could muddle the waters and potentially foreshadow a hindered fantasy outlook if Green Bay is going to give numerous snaps to Brooks and Johnson as well.

The latest FantasyPros point-per-reception (PPR) rankings, which serve as a consensus for 128 experts, currently list Lloyd at 106th overall (35th among running backs). His current average draft position (ADP) is 39th among running backs and 118th overall in 12-team PPR leagues, per Fantasy Football Calculator .

Lloyd played three years at South Carolina (2021 and 2022) and USC (2023) before the Packers selected him with a third-round choice in the 2024 draft.

His best collegiate season was 2023, when Lloyd amassed 1,052 yards and nine touchdowns on 129 touches. He rushed for 7.1 yards per carry and was highly efficient in the pass game (232 yards on just 13 receptions).

Unfortunately, Lloyd has dealt with a wave of ailments that has held him to just six carries. Per ESPN's Rob Demovsky , Lloyd suffered a hip injury in his rookie year training camp and a hamstring injury in his first preseason game. He didn't play Week 1 but had six carries for 15 yards in Week 2. Unfortunately, Lloyd suffered an ankle injury and went on injured reserve.

He was getting ready to return but then had an emergency appendectomy in November and then another hamstring injury following his recovery.

In 2025, Lloyd missed the Aug. 9 preseason game with a groin injury, but he then returned to preseason action on Aug. 16 and suffered a hamstring ailment after making a 33-yard catch against the Indianapolis Colts. He had two hamstring strains and a calf sprain in 2025 overall, per Demovsky .

Thankfully, Lloyd enters this year healthy, and he spent time in California this year with Dr. John Meyer of the Meyer Institute of Sport to get to the bottom of his issues, per packers.com senior writer Wes Hodkiewicz .

In sum, it was deemed Lloyd was "overcompensating in workouts to train his lower body" after suffering a torn ACL in 2020 while at South Carolina.

All told, there is certainly optimism about Lloyd. It's fair to wonder, though, how much the Packers would realistically push him. Simply put, he hasn't rushed the ball much over time, and no more than 129 times in a given year since high school.

Overall, Lloyd could very well be efficient, show explosiveness and stay healthy, and that would be a huge win for all.

From a fantasy standpoint, given the Packers OC's comments, coupled with the fact that it's hard to see Lloyd being given a workhorse role to avoid risking further injury, he may not be the best option.

At best, Lloyd seems like a flex, but realistically, he's solid depth as a bench option, simply because the opportunities may not be there.
