'No Excuses,' Ravens HC Reacts to Blowout Loss to Jaguars After Lamar Jackson Injury
Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter wasn't interested in using the absence of star quarterback Lamar Jackson as an excuse for the team's 33-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.
Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter wasn't interested in using the absence of star quarterback Lamar Jackson as an excuse for the team's 33-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.
"Obviously it's a tough situation for our guys," Minter told reporters after the game. "But, I just told them there's no excuses. There's no whatever, we don't have this guy, we don't have that guy. We've got to make a decision again over this break, got a little bit of a break for the guys to mentally reset and come back and seek improvement in all three phases. That's what we'll be after."
With Jackson out due to a right thumb injury and backup quarterback Tyler Huntley sidelined with a toe injury, the Ravens turned to undrafted free agent Joe Fagnano under center.
Fagnano finished 10-of-18 for 60 yards and two interceptions against Jacksonville.
"I'm not here to make excuses," Fagnano said after the game, per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. "We just didn't execute. I have to play better."
He was appearing in the second game of his career, as he previously threw for 91 yards while getting picked off once during the Ravens' 36-10 defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Baltimore's offense was only able to muster three points through three quarters against Jacksonville, finally finding the end zone with a 65-yard rushing touchdown by Justice Hill as the Jaguars held a 33-3 lead in the fourth.
The Ravens picked up just 10 first downs while committing three turnovers during the contest. They averaged 4.2 yards per play.
Baltimore has now lost four consecutive games since opening the season with a 4-1 record.
The Ravens' struggles without Jackson have been particularly disappointing considering the two-time MVP started the year by completing 70.1 percent of his passes for 967 yards and six touchdowns compared to one interception. He also rushed for 144 yards and one score.
Baltimore will now look to bounce back in its next game, a matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 16.
