Jaxson Dart Takes Late Hit as Giants, Cowboys Skirmish on Video in NFL Week 1 Rivalry Game

The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys have both dealt with some down years over the past few seasons, but that doesn't mean their rivalry has cooled off.

In the first quarter of the Week 1 matchup between the divisional rivals, Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart ran for a first down before taking a late hit from DeMarvion Overshown. That led to a skirmish between the two sides.

The rivalry between the Cowboys and Giants has always been intense, even in years when the two teams aren't at their best. Last year, their Week 2 matchup went into overtime as Dallas won 40-37. New York responded with a win in their second matchup of the season.

This season, the matchup could be much more important as both teams aim to compete for the playoffs.

Dallas had a tremendous offense last year, but its poor defense kept it from reaching the postseason. The Cowboys made major strides on that end over the offseason and are expected to be a playoff contender, if not a Super Bowl contender.

The Giants perhaps aren't ready to compete for a championship just yet, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them make a run at the playoffs.

Dart had a strong rookie season and should only get better this year, and he has some weapons around him, like Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo. New York also brought in John Harbaugh as its head coach this offseason, and his veteran experience will only help.

Of course, it all starts with Week 1, and the Giants will only be more motivated to get a win after their quarterback took a cheap shot early.
