Robert Saleh's Revenge Game vs. Jets Discussed by Insiders, Titans HC Will 'Be After Their Asses'

Robert Saleh's first game as head coach of the Tennessee Titans will take on a special meaning for him because it also comes against the New York Jets team that unceremoniously fired him midway through the 2024 season.

Speaking to ESPN's Turron Davenport and Rich Cimini , one former Jets player explained how they think Saleh is approaching Sunday's matchup.

"Saleh will be after their asses," the player said.

The Jets gave Saleh his first opportunity as a head coach in the NFL. He went 20-36 with no playoff appearances in four seasons before being fired after a Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in October 2024.

Even though the Jets never took the step forward during Saleh's tenure they were hoping for, their seven wins in both 2022 and 2023 are tied for their most in a single-season since 2016.

Davenport and Cimini noted Saleh and Jets owner Woody Johnson didn't have a "close rapport" during that period, in part because Johnson wasn't the one who hired him since he was serving out his tenure as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom when Saleh got the job in January 2021.

According to Davenport and Cimini, Johnson's public message in the wake of Saleh's firing was "I just think we can do better."

The Jets are 6-23 since moving on from Saleh. Their 14 losses in 2025 tied the second-most in a single season in franchise history.

Saleh spent last season as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. He was hired by the Titans as their new head coach in January.

Sunday will mark Saleh's first game against the Jets as either a head coach or coordinator since he was fired. It will kickoff on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET from Nissan Stadium.
