NFL Games Today: Is There a Football Game on Saturday? A Look at Tonight’s Slate and Complete Week 1 TV Schedule

The NFL played two of its 16 Week 1 matchups, Wednesday's New England Patriots-Seattle Seahawks opener and Thursday's San Francisco 49ers-Los Angeles Rams game in Melbourne, and now waits until Sunday for the rest of the slate.

College football fills that gap tonight, and it's doing it with the No. 1 team in the country walking into Austin. Ohio State takes on Texas at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, a rematch of last year's opener that the Buckeyes won 14-7, except this time, both programs enter ranked in the top four.

The marquee matchup arrives at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, when No. 1 Ohio State visits No. 4 Texas in Austin. In that same primetime window, Louisiana Tech visits No. 8 LSU on SECN+, and No. 13 Texas Tech travels to Oregon State on CBS.

The day opens with a stacked noon slate with No. 6 Oregon at Oklahoma State on ESPN, Howard at No. 5 Indiana on Big Ten Network, Arizona State at No. 10 Texas A&M on ABC, No. 11 Oklahoma at Michigan on FOX, and No. 16 Penn State at Temple on ESPN2.

That Indiana game is worth watching for a different reason, with the Hoosiers entering as the reigning national champions.

Having beaten Miami in the title game to close last season, they face their first real test of the new campaign against an FCS opponent on Saturday.

Western Kentucky visits No. 2 Georgia at 12:45 p.m. ET on SEC Network.

The afternoon window sends Rice to No. 3 Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Notre Dame missed the College Football Playoff last season despite finishing 10-2 and enters this year still ranked among the nation's elite under its current staff.

The rest of the afternoon slate includes No. 12 Alabama at Kentucky on ABC, Arizona at No. 15 BYU on FOX, and Utah State at No. 19 Washington on Big Ten Network. UC Davis visits No. 17 SMU at 4 p.m. ET on ACCNX.

The evening card before primetime features No. 18 Tennessee at Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and Southern at No. 22 Houston on ESPN+.

Two games are in the books. 14 remain. Sunday is when Week 1 truly gets going, with a 13-game slate spread across FOX and CBS windows before the night games take over.

FOX has Bears at Panthers , Buccaneers at Bengals , and Saints at Lions locked in for the early 1 p.m. ET window, while the rest of the Sunday afternoon and late-afternoon slate fills in around the league's usual regional split between the two networks.

The night belongs to two rivalries with very different stakes. NBC's Sunday Night Football sends the Cowboys to the Giants for the league's season debut of the franchise, a series that dates back to 1960 and remains one of the NFL's more heated rivalries.

Monday closes the week with Denver at Kansas City , a game that means more this year than most season openers between the two: the Broncos won the AFC West outright last season at 14-3, while the Chiefs collapsed to 6-11, their worst finish since 2012.
