Jaguars to 'listen' to offers for WR Brian Thomas Jr.
With the NFL trade deadline near, Adam Schefter reports that the Jaguars will "listen" to offers for Brian Thomas Jr.
For roughly a year now, trade speculation has surrounded Brian Thomas Jr. However, the Jacksonville Jaguars have remained committed to the talented wideout.
Even for much of this season, with Thomas' role in question, reports have suggested that the Jaguars weren't open to trading him.
But now, with the trade deadline near and opportunities for Thomas limited in the Jaguars' offense, ESPN's Adam Schefter says that Jacksonville will at least "listen" to what other teams have to offer.
"Jacksonville has resisted trade overtures so far, but it sounds like they're going to listen before Tuesday. We'll see if they make a deal," Schefter said on Sunday.
Thomas' fit in Liam Coen's offense has never materialized and this season, his role has continued to shrink as a result. This includes playing just 15 snaps in Week 6 and only 19 snaps in Week 9.
Thomas has also caught just 10 passes this season for 117 yards with two touchdowns. He has three games with no receptions.
However, there are still reasons to keep Thomas as well.
As SI's Albert Breer noted recently, even if the ball doesn't go his way, there is a lot of value that his field-stretching presence adds to the offense. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler pointed out that with the Jaguars in win-now mode, they are looking to add to their roster, not subtract.
It will be up to GM James Gladstone to decide if he'd rather have Thomas' presence on the team, even in a limited capacity, or if he'd rather bank future draft capital to bolster the roster down the road.
