The refereeing body Pro Ref issued an official statement acknowledging a decisive mistake in the derby played this Sunday at Old Trafford, where Erling Haaland scored the winning goal for Manchester City against Manchester United .

The assistant referee had initially flagged Haaland offside in the 60th minute. Although the striker was onside, the VAR failed to assess Enzo Fernández 's impact on the play, even though he did not touch the ball but influenced the action. Pro Ref clarified that the video assistant referee should have recommended an on-field review, as it was a subjective offside situation.
