John McEnroe ended US Open by stating obvious about Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner

By beating Ben Shelton in Sunday's US Open men's final, Alexander Zverev (at first, unknowingly) won his second Grand Slam singles title of the calendar year. But even with Zverev's success, it was hard to shake the feeling that we were missing out on something special.

Oh, right. Where were Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the two clear best talents in men's tennis?

In Alcaraz's case, after missing several months due to a wrist injury, he clearly wasn't in top form during a disappointing quarterfinals loss to Shelton. Sinner, meanwhile, skipped the US Open altogether with a knee injury after beating Zverev in the 2026 Wimbledon men's singles final. What a bummer all around.

No disrespect intended toward either Zverev or Shelton, but if both Alcaraz and Sinner were healthy, it's not a stretch to say it likely would've been them duking it out in the last Grand Slam final of the tennis season. As the US Open broadcast concluded on ESPN, analyst John McEnroe spoke to the glaring absence of two of tennis's biggest stars, and honestly probably said what many were already thinking.

"Get healthy, Carlos [Alcaraz] and Jannik [Sinner] ... please." Uh, yes, I second that!

Unfortunately, we won't be able to see either Alcaraz or Sinner in a Grand Slam until the 2027 Australian Open in January. Though maybe that'll be enough time for the entire tennis world to really miss seeing both players' greatness.
